At the same time, our nation experienced a nearly 50 percent rise in children diagnoses with learning disabilities and asthma. Plus, we’ve seen cases of childhood diabetes triple and in every state Autism has increased by 200 to 7,000 percent. These are big numbers that deserve big attention. But money stands in the way of settling this debate, as many federal grants have not been renewed to continue research on this vital topic.

These shocking results come from a Generation Rescue study released in June 2007. The research, privately funded without ties to the pharmaceutical industry or the medical community, included an extensive interview of 17,674 vaccinated and unvaccinated children.

When compared to non-vaccinated boys in the same age group, researchers found the following statistics:

- Vaccinated boys age 4-17 are 155 percent more likely to have neurological disorders, are 224 percent more likely to have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and 61 percent more likely to have autism.

- Vaccinated older boys, in the age range of 11 to 17, were found to be even more susceptible to autism. They are 158 percent more likely to have a neurological disorder, 317 percent more likely to have ADHD, and 112 percent more likely to have autism.

- Vaccinated boys were 224 percent more likely to develop ADHD.

- Vaccinated boys and girls were 120 percent more likely to develop asthma.

Younger boys that have been vaccinated show less symptoms of autism, however researchers believe that these lower numbers will rise over time as professionals are more able to accurately diagnose the early symptoms of autism in younger children.

The story starts with Daniels mother, Susan Crisp taking Daniel to the chiropractor (Evening Start picture right) and notes that Susan and her husband, Gary, firmly believe that this care has been key to the recent improvements they’ve seen in Daniels development. “His communication has improved tremendously,” says Susan.

Susan Crisp chronicled Daniel’s progress by stating, “He has started putting three or four words together and it is not in response to questions from us. It’s spontaneous. At one time, if he wanted something out of the fridge he would drag me to it and point. Now he’ll say, `Mummy, I want’. “He doesn’t seem so closed in as he once was and is interacting more with his three older sisters.” The article reported on another instance where a television reporter Quentin Willson had done a story on his own son’s improvement with chiropractic.

The article noted that it was this television story that prompted Susan to take her son, Daniel to see a chiropractor. Susan recalled, “It was a coincidence that I saw it. I had the TV on and it really caught my eye because there were so many similarities between what he was talking about with his son and Daniel.” She continued, “It stayed on my mind. I told Gary about it and we felt we should give it a try. We thought, `If nothing happens, that’s the worst that can happen’. At the time, Daniel was walking on his tip-toes and his feet were pointing inwards when he walked – which can be symptoms of autism. I was worried about it and we thought that the chiropractic might be able to help with his posture.”

Daniel’s success adds weight to two separate papers published in two scientific journals in March of 2006 where studies documented a significant improvement in autistic children under chiropractic care. In one of those studies involving 14 children, 12 showed significant improvement and two of the children improved so much that they no longer met the criteria to be classified as autistic.

The British article concludes with comments from Daniel’s mother, Susan, where she notes how he enjoys the care, “But it’s not just a matter of Daniel enjoying it. Within four to six weeks we noticed a huge improvement in his condition. “We took him in June and by August people who don’t see him regularly commented that his speech had come on tremendously. He started to initiate sentences – it was a real surprise, to us.” She concluded by saying, “The chiropractic was like turning a key, opening the door and it all came out of him. “It’s not a cure but it can alleviate some of the difficulties.”

In the midst of the controversy, the CDC claims that recent studies indicate no link between childhood vaccinations and developmental disorders, such as autism. What the CDC failed to report is just how little research they had actually done on the subject.

Even more disturbing is that the CDC does not recognize the harm in using Thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative used in all childhood vaccines up until the year 2004. As the public outcry for the ban on thimerosal intensified, the federal government banned the use of mercury in vaccines, but only as a precautionary measure. Three years later an independent study concluded that a link DOES exist between thimerosal and autism. But the Institutes of Medicine, contacted by the CDC to study the possible link, conducted their own study that there was no connection. This study is still being used today as the official position on the issue. It also explains why the government still allows the use of Thimerosal in the Flu shot.

Meanwhile, parents of the over 140,000 autistic kids in the U.S. are struggling to understand why the cases of autism have skyrocketed by 500 percent over the last decade. Experts now estimate that one in every 166 children in the U.S. has been diagnosed with autism.
